What affects solar panels in Altea
In Altea about half the population is foreign, there are about 1,573 registered tourist rentals, and many homes sit on hillsides. Calima and dust settle on panels here as they do along the whole coast. The tap water is moderate, about 190 mg/L, so the main job is lifting the dust film without scratching the glass, followed by a 0 ppm rinse.

Common questions
Why does cleaning solar panels matter?
Saharan dust (calima), sea salt and limescale from hard water leave a film on the glass that scatters light. Panels produce less well before they look dirty. Cleaning removes that film.
How do you clean the panels?
With demineralised water, which dries without limescale, so there's no scrubbing and no scratches on the glass. We use a soft brush on a telescopic carbon pole and never step on the panels.
Do you use chemicals? Does cleaning affect the panel warranty?
No detergents and no pressure washer on the panels, just demineralised water and a soft brush on a pole. That's the cleaning manufacturers usually ask for, so it shouldn't cause warranty problems.
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
On the coast, a few times a year, plus an extra clean after heavy calima. The dust sticks to the glass once the dew settles, and rain rarely washes it off.
How much output does a dirty solar panel lose?
It depends on how dirty they are, their tilt and how long since it last rained, so we won't give you a made-up percentage. The best way to know is your own inverter app: compare output for a few days before and after the clean, in similar weather.
