How do you clean the panels?
With demineralised water, which dries without limescale, so there's no scrubbing and no scratches on the glass. We use a soft brush on a telescopic carbon pole and never step on the panels.
Do you use chemicals? Does cleaning affect the panel warranty?
No detergents and no pressure washer on the panels, just demineralised water and a soft brush on a pole. That's the cleaning manufacturers usually ask for, so it shouldn't cause warranty problems.
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
On the coast, a few times a year, plus an extra clean after heavy calima. The dust sticks to the glass once the dew settles, and rain rarely washes it off.
How much output does a dirty solar panel lose?
It depends on how dirty they are, their tilt and how long since it last rained, so we won't give you a made-up percentage. The best way to know is your own inverter app: compare output for a few days before and after the clean, in similar weather.
